The West Coast of Vancouver Island

So far I have only gone to Barkley Sound. In the picture below it is the first sound after coming out of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Nootka Sound and the Tofino area are on my list of places to see. Anyone who likes to surf should be interested in Tofino and Ucluelet in Barkley Sound. In Ucluelet the metro buses have a place to carry surfboards inside.

The accepted way to circumnavigate Vancouver Island is to go counter clockwise. The guide book that covers the west coast is setup for cruisers to go that way. There are good reasons for doing it that way, but there is no real reason that you can't go clockwise. When we were in Mexico we met cruisers from this area that had gone around counter clockwise to prepare for their cruise south. They told us that their circumnavigation did not prepare them for Mexico.
